Manager Chris Hargreaves has said he can take plenty of positives from our draw against Aldershot, but clearly we need a more clinical edge in front of goal.

It was a tight game, our second match in three days and the opposition had had an extra 24 hours to recover compared to us, so the positives are definitely there from the game, but speaking to the Official Site Hargreaves had to admit the point was somewhat overshadowed as he knows had we taken our chances properly he’d have been sat there talking about a win – which obviously he’d rather have been doing.

‘It was a magnificent effort coming just two days after our last game. We had 10 or 11 shots on target and you have to score two or three, and just win. Someone needed to be the hero but the lads have been magnificent, especially with Elliot Benyon, Ashley Yeoman and Ryan Bowman all unavailable. It’s incredible they’ve put on such a vigorous performance.’

Hargreaves goes on to say that in the second half to be honest both sides were effectively ‘dead on their feet’ but he did feel the extra 24 hours helped Aldershot as they were just that touch brighter for him, so the recovery time did tell, but he’ll take that as a positive because having a bit more in the tank than we did, they still didn’t create major problems.

With our goal coming from a Courtney Cameron set piece, Hargreaves joked that he had been working on freekicks lately, but he hadn’t worked on the one that was meant to be a cross but flies straight in but everyone will certainly take it.

‘We played the right shape, we looked solid defensively and I was really happy with the performance, but didn’t quite have that killer instinct, which is maybe down to tired minds and legs. The defence has conceded one goal in four games, which is credit to them, but we need to kill teams off.’

On the flipside of that coin though, Hargreaves also comments that we’ve played well and taken a good point, and should’ve won, against a team going for promotion and who have backed that up by spending a fair amount of money to back up that aim.
