Manager Alan Knill has hailed an outstanding away team performance from the boys as we put Bury to the sword three one last weekend.

With an easing injury list to compliment the talented youngster we have brought in on loan, Knill almost had a full compliment to choose from ahead of the game and for the first time in a while, we had a good experienced bench to call on to help us see the game out.

Aaron Downes opened the scoring before Paul McCallum helped himself to a brace to ensure all three points for us on our journey home.

Speaking to the Official Site following the win, the gaffer explained.

‘It was an outstanding away performance and thoroughly deserved. We’ve worked really hard on set plays and we were good value for the win.’

Knill says it was particularly pleasing for him because we attacked within intent over the 90 minutes, but when we needed to stay solid and defend, we did so manfully and the players put their bodies on the line to ensure we kept the ball out, so really he’s got nothing but praise for them following that showing.

The gaffer adds that he had a meeting with the players at the hotel and told them we were ever so close to things clicking properly on the pitch and they just had to keep doing what they have been doing, but ultimately it’s about results in this game and he believes that result and the performance will certainly have given our critics something to ponder.

The only real concern Knill had once we got into our stride was that the weather conditions were so bad, knowing our luck so far this season, he thought the game would be abandoned but thankfully the officials let it play out, and we stuck to our task fantastically well and made the most of it.
