Sometimes a footballer needs a ‘wake-up call’ and Martin Ling, as he told the official website, has delivered this to Lloyd Macklin.

The winger is transfer listed but no interest has been show in him and Ling says that this lack of interest does not surprise him and he hopes that ‘Lloyd and his agent’ are taking note of this!

It seems that The Gulls manager thinks that he has been dining off his ‘great potential’ from some five-years ago, which has never been fulfilled. ‘Pulling his finger out’ is needed although Ling, even though it seems his views are to the contrary, isn’t ruling out him still having a future with the club: ‘he needs to pull his finger out and get on with his career. I’ve not had one phone call about Lloyd, which should tell him what he needs to do.

‘People have been talking about massive potential with Lloyd for five years. He was the youngest player to play for the Swindon first-team and yet we’re five years down the line waiting for that potential to be fulfilled.

‘If he comes back here for pre-season, I would never ostracise anyone, but he needs to show me something. The problem is with Lloyd and not the people working with him.’

The likelihood of Macklin having a future at Plainmoor does seem unlikely but if clubs continue to show a lack of interest in him then he will have to do exactly what Ling suggests and knuckle down to fight for a place at Torquay.
