Manager Chris Hargreaves has confirmed that Billy Bodin is unlikely to return to Plainmoor, but Tom Cruise has now penned a short term deal.

Starting with the Welsh winger, Bodin suffered a serious knee injury at the end of last season and of course he is also out of contract this summer, and whilst the club were open to helping him with his rehab irrespective of the contract issue, it was revealed he’s been rehabing away from the club anyway, but given our relegation unfortunately paying his wages whilst he was out for nearly a year just wasn’t an option in any event as Hargreaves admitted previously.

Speaking more recently to the Official Site the gaffer said.

‘We don’t expect to see Billy back but we wish him all the best, and thank him for his efforts with the club. It was an unfortunate end with Billy picking up a bad injury. He is a talented player but the wages he was on were too much. He has to kick start his career somewhere else because we’re not in the market to pay those sort of wages, so probably best for all concerned he tries his luck elsewhere.’

As for Tom Cruise, the left back has now secured a short term deal with the club with a view to earning a longer deal down the line.

Having been released over the summer, he was invited back by the gaffer and effectively trialled to secure a deal and having impressed and featured heavily in pre season, the player will now turn his eye to the Conference campaign ahead and continuing his form to get the longer deal in the future.
