Manager Chris Hargreaves has this evening captured striker Ryan Bowman from York City.

The 22 year old player has signed a two year deal at Plainmoor, and bringing him in following our recent additions could be the end of our gaffer’s search for options up front now as he’s been targeting strikers all summer so far.

Speaking to the Official Site Hargreaves was clearly delighted to bring this pursuit to an end, and he explained.

‘He is an excellent signing and a really good move for the club. We have a young, hungry striker, who plays on the shoulder of defenders, is good in the air, quick and scores goals.’

Hargreaves goes on to say that Bowman is also a ‘big lad’ with some physical presence about him, but a very good leap and Hargreaves saw him in his ‘purple patch’ for Hereford a few years ago so he more than knows what he’s capable of when he’s on song and his job now obviously will be to get him into another run of form like that, and then hopefully consistency.

‘I’ve always liked him and he’s ready to prove a point. He comes straight into pre season tomorrow and he’s really happy to be down here. There were lots of clubs chasing him, including some of our rivals, so I’m delighted to have him here.’

Having come through the youth ranks at Carlisle, he got his first real run during a 12 month spell with Darlington, and before really finding his feet in 2012-13 with Hereford. His form there earned him the move to York last summer, and it didn’t really work out for him, but he still showed he was a goal threat, scoring eight times for them.

He comes to us having amassed a starting record of 87 appearances, with another 47 from the bench, and a return of 35 goals. Not too shabby a record for a 22 year old with bags left to learn.
