Manager Paul Cox has given his thoughts following the midweek one nil defeat to Woking, and also spoken about new capture Simon Heslop.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game the gaffer explained that he was disappointed to see us lose from a set piece, especially so late on in the game.

‘This is going to happen from time to time. We have a lot of young lads out there and combine that with the likes of Louis Briscoe and James Hurst who are still getting back to full fitness. That said, it was especially disappointing to see us concede from a set-piece; to do that right at the end is unforgivable, to be honest. But I was pleased with our performance in the first half; we looked fluid but couldn`t get that decisive goal when we were on top and it cost us in the end. We didn`t start the second half particularly well and then came the substitution incident which knocked us off our stride.’

Cox went on to say though that the group are still growing and working so he won’t be too hard on them as there were positives and knocks and disappointments like this are part of the learning curve, but we need to ensure we build on those positives now and pick up more points in the future.

‘I am confident that we are heading in the right direction and now we look forward to the next game.’

As for Heslop who made his debut as a second half substitute, Cox said of his arrival.

‘Simon will bring much-needed experience to the spine of our team. We’ve got a number of young lads in there who are learning their trade and Simon will be that calming influence that they need in certain aspects of the game. It’s nice to be able to add that higher level know-how to our team. Simon has played in The Football League throughout his career and he will certainly aid the team with his ability and presence. He is someone I know and he’s the right kind of character to have around the place.’

With Heslop arriving, Torquay have allowed Ashley Yoeman out on loan and the 23 year old head to Truro City for a month to get more regular game time under his belt.

Going back to Woking, it was also confirmed today that despite being sent from the touchline, Cox won’t serve a suspension but he has been warned about his future conduct.
