Manager Chris Hargreaves has said that the Accrington Stanley game this weekend is absolutely crucial for our survival hopes.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game on Saturday, the gaffer said that he was looking for a committed performance like the one we put in against Chesterfield last time out, and if we can do that, he’s very confident indeed we can take all three points off them at Plainmoor.

‘We did really well last weekend and up until the equaliser, Chesterfield were struggling. We were good in possession, looked good on the break and contained them really well. Unfortunately, we made one mistake and conceded an unusual goal, which changed the dynamic of the game.’

Hargreaves says it’s obvious that Accrington have a good team spirit and the way they have turned their season around after going ten or so games at the beginning of the season without a win, is testament to that, but what the game will boil down to is how we approach the game, how we perform and we can’t be too worried about them.

‘You have to be diligent in your approach, we have to pay Accrington respect, but I feel Saturday is about us, and what we do. It’s the same approach as we showed against Chesterfield. They are top of the league and we took the game to them.’

Finishing off the interview, the gaffer explains that he’s expecting a very tough encounter, that will be tight, and he’s expecting a battle because he knows both teams will be giving it their all and will be fully committed.

A victory for us could send us above Wycombe Wanderers and that would be a first step to take in clawing ourselves away from the drop zone. A point wouldn’t be fantastic, but we need to avoid a loss by any means necessary so the gap above doesn’t dramatically increase.
