Manager Chris Hargreaves has said he has had to make the difficult decision to release Danny Stevens when his short term contract at the club expires over the summer.

The winger rejoined us back in January under Chris Hargreaves having been released by Alan Knill back at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Speaking to the Official Site about the latest playing squad decision for 2014-15, Hargreaves explained.

‘I’ve had to make the difficult decision of allowing Danny to leave. I think a lot of him as a person and a player. We’ve had some great times as friends and team mates, but it hasn’t worked the way I wanted in the last few months and we’re looking to move in a different direction.’

The gaffer goes on to say that obviously budget implications carry consequences for all of the players and his choices moving forward, but Danny will always obviously be welcome back at the club because he is in our history as one of the lads who helped bring us back to the Football League at the last time of asking.

Since returning in January, he went on to make only six appearances for us.
