Alan Knill has revealed that Aaron Downes may have suffered a very serious knee injury following a recent training session ahead of the game against Newport.

The Australian defender is described as ‘collapsing in a worrying fashion’ by the Official Site and obviously with Downe’s history of knee problems, it’s become a major concern for the gaffer.

It proved to be a bad Thursday for Knill as he also saw Krystian Pearce struggle with illness towards the end of the day, although he obviously managed to get through the game at the weekend.

The gaffer explained that the defender had undergone an MRI scan yesterday, but the initial prognosis is that it’s not looking very good at all for the player.

No doubt, this is part of the recent move for the young Blackburn defender, but Knill had a lot of praise for the way Pearce battled on even though it left him laid out in the dressing room following the game.

‘It was touch and go as to whether he (Pearce) would play, obviously he’s not 100% and he was laid out after the game, but we need that sort of spirit when we’re down.’

It remains to be seen if Knill will bring in further cover in defence in anticipation of news on Downes.
