Player of the Season Aaron Downes has agreed a new two year contract with Torquay.

It was a good first season for the Australian and he’ll now be hoping we can all kick on next season, and the timing will be good for Alan Knill especially with Brian Saah departing.

Speaking to the Official Site the manager said that although the deal hasn’t been signed, it has been agreed.

‘Downes has not signed his contract yet but he has agreed to stay and it’s a big plus for us because he was outstanding last season.’

Knill says he’s long admired the centre half and now he appears to be over his injury troubles, he’s expecting him to kick on and become one of the best centre halves in the league.
