Torquay tasted success in the first game of pre season under new manager Paul Cox.

With us scheduled to play Liverton in the opening game of the pre season 2015-16 build up, problems with their pitch saw that match cancelled and Galmpton stepped up quickly to ensure a game could go ahead.

And it did the other day with Ashley Yeoman helping himself to five goals in a nine goal thriller.

A very useful opening day run out with a bit more of a competitive edge than pre season training can muster will have left Cox happy with the efforts, and we went in at half time six goals already to the good.

Other goals came from a hattrick by Shepherd Murombedzi and a Jide Maduako effort.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer explained that whilst it was in many ways the perfect start, nobody can get carried away with the scoreline as there is still plenty of hard work left to be done ahead of a challenging season in front of us.

‘It was nice to start with a solid victory, but I`m not getting too carried away. It was a good work-out and there were some pleasing performances. Yes, there are things we can improve on, but fitness-wise I was happy with how we looked.’

Cox went on to say that the most pleasing thing for him really was that the players were professional and committed and went out and followed their instructions perfectly, and for him that is a huge positive because he knows they are with him and taking on board what he’s been saying since we returned to training.

‘It`s early days yet, of course, and I will be looking for us to get a level of consistency in our performances over the games ahead. That said, some of the lads out there did their chances no harm whatsoever.’

The game obviously included a number of trialists that Cox is looking over and whilst a few are being tentatively linked with deals in the press already, Cox has confirmed that 30 year old Exodus Geohaghon will be offered a deal as they know each other well from their time together at Mansfield.

It does look like Levi Ives will soon be departing though.
