Torquay have announced the prospective signing of former Northampton Town midfielder Ben Harding on a two year contract.

The 28 year old was released at the end of the season and he made his club debut against the Royal Marines.

Although the move is official for all intents and purposes, the paperwork still has to be signed, and Alan Knill told the Official Site that he expects to announce him officially by Monday at the latest.

‘He’s hasn’t signed yet but that’s only down to paperwork. Everything is agreed and we’re expecting him to either sign over the weekend or on Monday. He’s a big player with good size and somebody I’ve always liked. He’s used to being in winning teams and knows what it takes. I felt we needed some experience and know how in this league, and he’s also a good footballer.’

Knill also says that it’s a credit to Harding because a number of other clubs were interested in his signature, and they were clubs closer to his home, but he’s happy to move his family here and really commit to the club so he’s exactly the type of player he wants at Torquay as we move forward.
