Manager Chris Hargreaves has said he expects to field what he considers to be our strongest side in Saturday’s game against Exeter.

The final pre season game of the summer should be a good test and benchmark for the side as we head into Non League life and an opening Conference day clash against Gateshead next weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer explained.

‘We will pick the team that we think might start against Gateshead next week, but there are definitely still a couple of places up for grabs. It will be a strong side but not a definite 11 for Gateshead. I would say it will probably be 80%, because you always get some little surprises, and we’ve having Gateshead watched this weekend, so that might have a bearing on who we play.’

Hargreaves goes on to say that he’s enjoyed pre season so far, and it’s something he didn’t really enjoy as a player, but he now understands why it’s so valuable to a manager and he couldn’t be more pleased with the progress he’s seen from the team, crediting them for being excellent in their efforts so far and also stating that he can definitely see a change in mentality and attitude from them.

As for the loss against Weymouth, he described it as a blip and probably a useful blip because having done so well in pre season games so far, being caught short and having been ‘woken up’ in that match, he’s learned a few things which have been addressed since the game took place and the players have learnt a few things as well, so overall it was an important game for us.
