Manager Chris Hargreaves couldn’t hide his frustration or anger following the three nil defeat to Wycombe Wanderers yesterday, and there’s no denying that the showing wasn’t good enough and was all too like the performances that got us into the relegation mess in the first place.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the disappointment of the match clearly just compounded the disappointment he felt at relegation.

‘You get a glimmer that there are some lads performing and doing well, but it then smacks you back in the face and you realise how big a job it is, and how many people need to not be at this club. It is my job to deliver a squad that can do it. If I said that most weeks I’m happy with three players, it probably gives you an indication of where I am. It’s a big rebuilding job.’

Hargreaves says that having made one change to go from the performance we put in against Mansfield to that showing, well, ‘I was disgusted with that display.’

The gaffer adds that on behalf of the players he apologises for their performance because it ‘wasn’t good enough’ and he insists it certainly did not ‘represent me as a manager.’

In fact he adds the only thing he was happy about from the day was that he didn’t bring his family to watch it.

Harsh words in a harsh season, and every time he speaks now you get the impression there will absolutely be a massive clear out over the summer.
