Manager Chris Hargreaves has said he can find few faults in the efforts of the players in the two one loss to Southport at the weekend.

Having fallen behind after ten minutes of the game, Torquay battled back admirably to get back on level terms and having been reduced to ten men with the sending off of skipper Luke Young all that hard work was undone at the end as Southport got their noses in front again.

The disappointment for the gaffer was he felt we were the side most likely to win it, but defensive mistakes again cost us.

Speaking to the Torquay Herald Express in his post game press conference, a disappointed Hargreaves explained.

‘It should have been a fighting 1-1 draw with ten men after a moment of madness from my captain. I thought the lads were magnificent for 80 minutes, got the equaliser and looked like they might get the winner. We played ever so well with 10 men, and it really is a sickener to lose like that. A couple of errors have cost us at the death, but the players put so much hard work into the game that I’m more disappointed for them than anything. I think Southport had two real shots all afternoon and scored twice.’

With Young getting his marching orders after only 12 minutes of the game, Hargreaves had now defence for him and he couldn’t argue with the decision of the referee either.

‘It was a big error of judgment, and Luke will have to learn from it.’

We of course now lose Young for the next three games and there are doubts over Ryan Bowman with his groin injury, given he didn’t see the game out for the second successive match having been substituted.

His own desire to get this right though doesn’t seem to have abated.

‘I am obsessed with getting this job right. My passion and desire and ambition remains the same.’
