Hargreaves Looks For A Hero

Manager Chris Hargreaves has said that somebody needs to stand up and become a hero for Torquay given the position we are in and preferably it will happen in tonight’s immensely tough encounter against Rochdale.

We have home advantage in tonight’s evening game and ultimately, like so many games now, anything but a victory is a waste of our time.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the match, the gaffer admitted that we needed somebody to stand up and write themselves into our history now and he really believes we have people in the team who can do that, but it’s about them believing that they can do it.

‘We can still do it. The players know what is ahead and I believe they can do it. They buy into that and we have another game.’

Hargreaves admits again that he feels we definitely deserved more last weekend in the game against Fleetwood Town but that game is gone now, and what ifs don’t count for anything, so we have to be focused on the test tonight and claw out what would be a very unexpected victory against a team who could potentially top the table come 10pm tonight.

‘We’re looking for someone to grab it around the neck and do it, someone to pin the centre half, turn and put it in the bottom corner, as they do in training. We’re looking for someone to be the leader and the hero.’

The gaffer goes on to say that he still can’t fault the team for their efforts and work rate, but what we really need is for that touch of quality now and that touch of composure so we do make our chances count and give ourselves something to hold on to in games.

It’s a massive ask with 12 games left to play and us being 10 points off the pace, but that is potentially 36 points on offer and if we can get that first win, then it could set us up to go on a run with the boost of confidence it would bring now, and it is still doable but until that win comes nothing is going to change.
