Torquay booked their place in the third round of the FA Trophy with a convincing four nil victory over Bromley.

Ben Harding and Toby Ajala both hit in deflected efforts to give us a two nil lead at the half time break, and following recent draws, the team kicked on in the second half with Ryan Bowman and Ashley Yeoman adding another couple.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Hargreaves was obviously a happy man.

‘On paper, it was a tricky game. Bromley have won seven and drawn three away, and no losses. Everyone was telling me they would be a real test and better than a lot of teams (Conference level). We went about our business really well, got Toby into pockets and we could have scored seven or eight in the second half. I’ve got to be happy with four nil and there were some very good performances.’

The gaffer admits that we can probably consider ourselves lucky in the first half with both goals taking deflections, but if you accept that was luck, we lacked a lot of it in recent weeks so it was about time we had some go our way.

‘We’ve been a bit hard done by in the last few weeks and I asked the players to put a bit of anger in their bodies. People are fighting for contracts and success. We were ruthless at the right times and didn’t give them a foothold in the game.’

Hargreaves finishes by saying that we did go with a different system to try and upset them based on what we expected them to do, and it worked for us on the day, and again he can’t fault the effort the players are putting in for him, but hopefully this win draws a line under recent flak and gets us on track properly again in the league – but he’ also hoping for a run in the cup.

The third round draw did take place yesterday and we have been given an away trip to Hemel Hempstead.

The game has been set for Saturday January 24, and our clash against Lincoln has been postponed and will be rearranged later.
