Torquay were looking to bring an end to three successive losses when we faced high flying Burton last night, and we managed to do just that.

We didn’t get the three points we all wanted but against Burton it was a valuable point as things stand, and to show the confidence to get back in the match so quickly after going behind certainly pleased the gaffer.

Speaking to the Official Site following the match, Chris Hargreaves couldn’t have been more proud of the effort and the desire of the players to get something out of the match and he feels if we can perform like that from here on in we have every chance of pulling ourselves away from the bottom and avoiding relegation this season.

‘I was pleased with the effort, the work rate and the commitment. Not the result we wanted and we were within an inch of the win at the end, but I’m really pleased with the bravery to get on the ball and try to play. I was proud of the players and they played well.’

Hargreaves goes on to say that from the first whistle we were on the front foot and taking the game to Burton, and in some ways their opening goal was unfortunate as you could argue it was against the run of play, it’s just disappointing we couldn’t convert one of our earlier chances to get ourselves in front and give us something to hold on to.

The main disappointment for the gaffer in seeing us try and play football like that is the state of the pitch, but the ground staff can only do so much with the weather that we’ve had this year so far, but with Hargreaves being pleased with us trying to play football the proper way we have to hope we can avoid the drop, invest in the pitch over the summer, and reap the rewards of how he wants us to play next campaign.
