Manager Chris Hargreaves has said the work in preparing the squad for next season continues despite the myth that the off season for managers is quiet and he’s also said those he has transfer listed are now starting to get some bites.

Dealing with those on the list first, the gaffer told the Official Site that it was only a matter of time before some interest was shown in the players we have for sale, because the experience that players such as Aaron Downes, Karl Hawley and Dale Tonge carry, like the others, will get attention as managers look round for the coming season, but he confirmed their hadn’t been any concrete bids yet.

It’s just the start where people gauge prices and so on.

‘We’ve had a few enquiries but nothing concrete yet. There are some good players on the transfer list and it’s the situation we are in. Sometimes, it doesn’t work out for players at certain clubs. Sometimes, finances dictate and sometimes I don’t want the players here. It has been a combination of the three.’

Hargreaves goes on to say though that everybody is professional, this is football and it happens often and at every club, so there’s no real problem over it, and if players don’t get moves, then they report back for pre season training, and the club moves forward together.

‘Things are financially tight in football at this level and we have to wait and see who will come in. I’m sure we will get more enquiries but we have to make it right for our club.’

Whilst there’s little news on ‘signings’ Hargreaves has harked back to the trial game he held earlier, and with that game throwing up two players in particular for him, he says other things are ‘in the pipeline.’

‘I’m speaking to lots of players. I don’t want to name them all because it gets people too excited but there is some real talent and experience amongst them. I’ve already got four players starting back with us in pre season and these are lads with good backgrounds, who are prepared to start with us and see how we feel about each other.’

The gaffer says he feels that if things work out then ‘these could be four fantastic signings’ for us, but obviously we aren’t at that stage yet, but overall he’s been very pleased with how the opening week of the summer has gone for him and the club.

‘I don’t want to rush into decisions and offer contracts too soon because it’s a long way down here, and players have to want to be part of it.’
