Manager Chris Hargreaves was furious with one player in particular, and non too happy with the officials following our two one loss to Barnet at the weekend.

Having gone behind, Aaron Downes then saw red in an ‘altercation’ with John Akinde before he promptly gave them a two nil lead and despite having more possession and goal attempts, Torquay just couldn’t get on level terms having given themselves a mountain to climb and Hargreaves was not impressed as he spoke to the Official Site following full time.

‘It’s hard to describe because our game plan went out of the window very quickly. I don’t want to go over the top but we were let down by some officiating that was sub standard. They were too young and too inexperienced. The fourth officials don’t have any jurisdiction to help and it was a pathetic showing, but a moment of madness has probably cost us the game, which I’m furious about.’

The biggest frustration for Hargreaves was that he felt Torquay had got themselves back on track in the game having lost the opening goal and we had of course just been given the advantage as they were reduced to ten men as N’Gala was dismissed for blocking a clear chance on goal, and at that stage all the gaffer saw was us going on to level it and then win it.

For their sending off, Hargreaves didn’t want to go into great detail but he said it came from a passage of play that was good, and something that we’d ‘specifically worked on’ on the training pitch, but then.

‘…whereas their gain came from our utter madness and that is why I’m furious.’
