Martin Ling has said he is shocked after being relieved of the manager’s job at Torquay.

‘After all the assurances during my illness and full recovery that I would be returning as manager of Torquay United, I was amazed to receive a phone call from Thea Bristow at 7.30pm on Sunday night to say that my contract with the club was being terminated.’

It was expected that Ling would meet with the board on Monday to discuss plans for the new season.

Quotes from the League Managers Association.

LMA CEO Richard Bevan said that the LMA had been in contact with the club throughout the period of illness Martin suffered and that at no point was there ever a suggestion he wouldn’t return to the role once he made a full recovery.
