Left back Kevin Nicholson has been put up for loan after requesting the move in order to get more game time.

Tom Cruise obviously started against Cheltenham in our 4-2 and was highly praised by gaffer Alan Knill, and Nicholson obviously feels he’s going to be a bit part player for the immediate future, so he’s requested that he goes out on loan to stay fit and get games.

Speaking to the Official Site Knill admitted the request had come as a shock to him, but he fully understands it given Nicholson’s age.

‘Nico wants to play. He’s an experienced player and doesn’t want to sit watching somebody else play. He said to me he wants to go on loan, so we wait and see what happens.’

Torquay have a few players on the loan list at the moment, so Nicholson now joins Niall Thompson, Ashley Yeoman, Nathan Craig and Jake Hutchings as being available for short term spells away from the club.

Knill says they are available simply to stay match fit and get some games under their belts as they aren’t currently in his plans for the immediate future, and he feels that getting them out for pitch time is a far better way of handling their time out of his plans than simply training or taking in friendly games or other fixtures.

Of course, if he can shift a few out, it opens up the opportunity to bring a few others in to do an immediate job whilst other players improve and develop further.
