Manager Chris Hargreaves was delighted to see Torquay get back to winning ways in our two nil win over Eastleigh.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer admitted it had been a hard month for the club but he again said we could’ve won both the last two home games that we drew, so he hoped it was only a matter of time before it clicked properly again for us.

‘We have delivered three points and it takes the pressure off for a couple of days. We had that desire to keep a clean sheet and it was a big challenge against some seriously good attackers coming on the pitch for Eastleigh. We stayed strong and always looked dangerous on the break. We soaked up the pressure in the right way and we weren’t erratic on the turnover of play, which pleased me a great deal.’

Hargreaves said that he’d called on the team to return to being a side that were tough to beat and they did just that for him, especially in terms of not just defending the box when crosses came in, but stopping them from coming in when we could.

With Jordan Chapell returning to the first team and getting the opener, Hargreaves also credited him for dealing well with being out of the side and keeping his fitness and sharpness on spot.

‘Jordan was excellent and it’s a testament to his desire to keep fit whilst he’s not playing because it’s very difficult to come and play a competitive game when you’ve been out. I only brought him off because he was cramping up. I’ve very pleased to see a player who has been out of the picture come in and deliver.’

Another player coming in for praise was 17 year old defender Levi Ives.

‘He was fantastic, what a performance from a 17 year old. He was very good at one v one defending and we told him a couple of things at half time to help him more. In the second half he was excellent.’

Hargreaves says that he didn’t get the chance to show what he could do going forward because of how the game went but he showed exactly why he’s got a bright future ahead of him.
