Manager Chris Hargreaves has admitted he’s been left somewhat baffled by the lay of the fixture list that sees us have a game in hand over our opponents in the league.

Speaking to the Official Site Hargreaves pointed out that Torquay could potentially be 11 points behind leaders Barnet before we even kick off because of how the fixtures have fallen and seen us without a midweek game.

‘I’m still baffled as to why we could have possibly entered Saturday’s game 11 points behind Barnet. I just can’t work it out. Everybody else plays when we don’t in midweek and then everyone else plays before us on Saturday. Unless someone can tell me that every other team will face the same scenario by the end of the season, it’s 100% wrong.’

Hargreaves goes on to say that all clubs should be in the same boat at somepoint, because it’s just wrong for him that Torquay should be playing cactch up even at this early stage of the season because we’ve worked very hard to get into the position we are inand the fixture structure isn’t doing us any favours at the moment.

The gaffer goes on to say that ultimately he’d rather have points on the board as opposed to games in hand, because whichever way you look at it it does add pressure, it does give an advantage and and there’s a reason teams are supposed to play at the same time and have that level playing field.

Hargreaves finishes by saying that he also finds it curious that we will end up playing some teams twice before we’ve even faced other sides once and that is curious for him because the fixture system is supposed to be random and automised.
