Torquay United officially confirmed yesterday that we were now under the control of new owners as the Dean Edwards led consortium got their deal over the line.

Agreement was struck with all parties, following on from the recent news implying the deal was very close, but not yet finalised, and it has now been finalised and allows the club the opportunity to move forward.

The statement released by the club confirmed that obviously there was still a lot of work that remained, but it was an opportunity that everybody has to seize on now.

Edwards is quoted by the BBC as saying.

‘We’re all pleased. It’s a great day in our history and we’re looking forward to the task ahead. If anybody says it’s an easy road they need committing. We know it’s not going to be an easy road, but we didn’t expect it to be. But the harder the road is, the harder we will work.’

Of course, with the pre season schedule taking shape, one of the first orders of business will be to provide manager Chris Hargreaves with his budget so plans can take shape for the squad and of course there are large questions about the youth set up which has recently bore fruit for us.

Geoff Harrop’s departure is already known.

Future announcements on those scores, and others will be welcomed by fans.
