Torquay United have decided to appeal the straight red card given to on loan Shamir Goodwin in our last match against Newport County.

The youngster was sent from the field in the first half having challenged for a header, and it appears the referee made the assumption that he had led with his elbow in the incident, and the club are confident they can show it was an accidental shoulder collision with the opposition player and therefore the red card was harsh and unwarranted.

The appeal is now with the FA and the club are hoping for a decision, in our favour, ahead of tomorrow night’s game against York City.

Since joining us back in January from Brighton and Hove Albion, Goodwin has gone on to make eleven appearances in the league for us, ten of which were starts, and he’s scored one in our loss to Chesterfield back in the middle of February.
