The news will delight all Gulls fans with Chris Roberts stepping down as the Chairman of Torquay United Football Club. It isn’t yet confirmed as to whether Roberts has anything at all to do with Torquay United right now but his position as Chairman has certainly ended.
In the interim Mervyn Benney will be acting Chairman of the club. This is a step in the right direction and Chief Executive Debbie Hancox confirmed on the official site that a new owner is set to step in to save the club. Hancox said, ‘Deals and negotiations are currently being thrashed out with regard to the chairmanship and ownership of Torquay United.’
The new owner was due to meet with all staff yesterday but failed to show. However, it is only a matter of time before his or her identity is revealed.
As for Chris Roberts, good riddance to bad rubbish is all that I can say. Believe me that is being extremely nice in the current situation.
