Torquay Snatch Away Point With Style

Torquay started the game on the back foot and for a large portion of the first half were defending.

A Westcarr goal shot home from the egde of the box after a poor clearance gave County the lead in the 12th minute.

Further attacking play led to Michael Poke having to make several good saves to deny the Magpies.

Torquay struggled to break forward and were often caught at the back.

A dubious decision ny the referee in the 32nd minute led to a freekick for County after Nicky Wroe ‘fouled’.

The resultant kick was probably the best I’ve seen all season. Davies curled the ball over the wall and beyond the reach of a diving Poke to the top left corner.

Torquay found themselves 2-0 down and to be honest I was worried. The fans looked down too and Torquay didn’t perk up too much after either.

10 minutes after the goal and Torquay broke. The ball was struck into the box and mark Ellis finished with his first goal of the season. A fine poke of the ball past Casper Schmichael gave Torquay a lifeline.

The halftime gave Topquay the break they needed as County fought ’till the end.

The second half was a totally different game. Torquay were alive in the second half and had several shots on goal. In my meagre opinion Torquay should have got three in the second half.

Mark Ellis headed wide a sitter of a chance at the back post and a Sills shot was steered clear of the post via the hands of a County player.

The goal finally came after another hand-ball by a County player outside the box.

A lethal ball in by Kev Nicholson was met by Mark Ellis who spun and Sills hit the ball into the net past the keeper.

The last 15 minutes could have see na goal for either side. County hit the inside of the post but it bounced wide and Torquay had a couple of chances to make the perfect game.

Overall in my opinion it was a great game and, dispite alot of tension and fear, Torquay finished with style and could have grabbed the 3 points.

My man of the match was Mark Ellis, he scored one and set up the second. he could have scored another of his own, but to let’s not be pinickety.

Talk about a game of two halfs ! We did not turn up for the first half and could have been down by three or four before half time except for some fine work by Poke. Second half and we were a different team – Buckle must have fed them raw meat ! We could easily have got two more goals if we had been a bit more accurate .
