The Torquay United Squad

.Scott Bevan– As been solid this season, starting six league games in goal before injury opened the door for Poke.

.Michael Brough– One substitute appearance in defence in the league this year. Now poised to go out on loan to either Stevenage or Mansfield.

.Kevin Nicholson– Featured in every game this season at left back. Instrumental in set pieces but has been left wanting in a couple of games including an horrific own goal against Grimsby.

.Mark Ellis– One full league game for Torquay this year since returning from a one-month loan spell at Forest Green where he played 7 games in defence.

.Chris Robertson– After nearly leaving in the summer amidst much interest, Robertson has been in good form at centre back playing in every game this season.

.Chris Todd– Played every game for Torquay this year however I feel he has been off his game of late. He can be very hot-headed having already picked up 3 yellow cards this season and being taken off early against Barnet to avoid the red.

.Lee Mansell– Injury has plagued his season with only one start and two subs to his name. He is fighting to be fit in time for Macclesfield tomorrow having played in Torquay’s 4-1 defeat to Tiverton in the week.

.Tim Sills– With 3 starts and 4 subs in the league this year Tim has been having to fight for his place in the Torquay first team. His only goal coming in the league cup defeat.

.Elliot Benyon– Taken part in every league game, twice off the bench, scored twice and has proved to be a problem for defences. if only he could get good service…

.Scott Rendell– On a year-long loan from Peterborough he has been Torquay’s main weapon up front playing in all 8 games with 2 subs and scoring twice. Works well with Benyon, however a lot more was expected.

.Nicky Wroe– Another of the squad to have played every game this year. From what I’ve seen, its been disappointing from the midfielder. He appears greedy on the ball and takes too much time before passing.

.Tyrone Thompson– This powerful midfielder has started just once in the league this year. He could become an important player if he could get a run in the team. I feel he needs a chance to perform.

.Martin Rice– I’ll be frank, not entirely sure why Torquay retained him this summer. He is on the verge of signing for Truro on a free transfer.

.Chris Hargreaves– The skipper was player of the season last year and has been an important player in every game this year. However maybe his age is starting to tell. He is planning to coach whenever his playing days end.

.Wayne Carlisle– featured in every game this year and personally I feel he is a key player. His service to the strikers can be a little off but it is at least frequent.

.Lee Hodges– With only one start to his name, in the place of injured Charnock, Lee is underused in my opinion. He is a solid player at the back and in times like these a great asset to the squad.

.Danny Stevens– Started all but one game this season, the winger has been under-performing in a physical league. Last year he was dynamite on legs and I hope he can settle in and recapture that form.

.Ben Joyce– Picked up on a free transfer following his release from Swindon. Not played and is going out on loan to Tiverton until Christmas. Can’t see him playing for Torquay this season.

.Kieran Charnock– Signed from Peterborough after a lot of persuasion from Barry Fry, their director of football. Has been solid in the back four playing 6 times in the league. Currently returning from injury and should be back in a week.

.Steve Adams-I think Steve might be heading out of Torquay by Christmas. After a rather unsuccessful loan spell at Forest Green, where he had a few howlers by all reports, he was sent back to Plainmoor. Not played for the Gulls for a while and wont.

.Ashley Yeoman– Reserve striker with one substitute cap to his name last season. Needs a little more time to develop before he becomes an option.

.Michael Poke– Played twice for Torquay this year in the place of injured Bevan. Good keeper on year long loan from Saints. A safe bet for the future if ever we need him.

.Danny Mills– A recent capture on loan from Peterborough. Yet to pull on the Gulls shirt but could be a gem and we need a striker who can pick up the ball and make something of nothing.

.Marvin Williams– Played twice in the league this year, once off the bench since his switch from Brentford. He is good coming forward with the ball and should have a goal to his name had Hargreaves not stolen it.

You are not the worst team in the league and have not had the rub of the green so to speak, but a good run would not go amiss. Your assessment of Wayne Carlise is spot on.
