Torquay Mystery Owner Revealed?

Falmouth Town manager Steve Massey has emerged as a strong candidate to buy Torquay United United Football Club.

Massey held preliminary talks with major shareholder Mike Bateson last week and could be prepared to make an offer.

Massey has confirmed his interest but admits that he is unlikley to make a bid until the summer at the earliest. He told Briton Sport, ‘I had further discussions with parties last week. I am interested in getting involved, but I said that I’m not doing anything until all the inner wranglings are sorted out because it’s an utter mess.’

Massey, for now, is committed to Falmouth Town and is determined to lead them to a top eight finish which would see them qualify for the new Peninsula League.

He reportedly approached Torquay United nine years ago with regards to the manager’s job but was turned down by Bateson.

Massey has certainly thrown his name in the hat and although an owner is expected sooner rather than later, Massey may just change his mind about waiting until the summer.
