Paul Buckle has been impressed with Joyce, 19, since monday when the youngster started training with the Gulls. Ben Joyce was released along with ex-loanee Blair Sturrock at the end of last season by Swindon manager Danny Wilson. Now, after five days at the Newton Abbot race ground he is a Gull already. He of course scored twice in the friendly game against Buckland on thursday and seemed to gel with the team very well. Buckle told the Torquay United official website that Joyce is ‘technically very good and has shown that he has an eye for goal.’

This is Torquay’s first signing of the season and only time will tell to see if it is a good one.

Just a reminder that Torquay’s next friendly is this wednesday away at Plymouth Argyle. This will prove a more realistic test for Joyce and the squad as a whole.

He only played four games for Swindon with one goal- on his debut- but at 19 and a league lower hopefully he can make an impact. I think it will come down to if he can deal with the physical nature of the game at this level.

I’m hoping to go to the Plymouth game. Can’t wait to see how Joyce plays against a professional team, hoping he can hold the ball up for Benyon or Sills.

Looks like he could be a promising player, but it would depend on whether he could get into the first team, as we do have players that can play as a striker or “in the hole” like benyon, so he has a challenge to get into the first team. Probably a few subs appearences, look out for him this season then.
