It was, as expected, a pretty tough battle for Torquay with the Gulls not actually having a shot on target in the first half.

However Bevan, in goal, was more than a match for the Palace strike-force and kept Torquay in the match at times.

Torquay struggled through the first half and did well in defense to keep the scores level.

In the second half the game was far move even and entertaining with all the goals coming after the break.

Darren Ambrose got the fist for the Eagles after 64 minutes. It was always coming although it came at a time in the match when Torquay were having their best spell.

It was a soft goal to give away in the end as the defense left Ambrose unmarked in the box. Something that should never happen in professional football.

Tim Sills levels after 73 minutes after heading home from a well places freekick from Kev Nicholson.

Torquay were certainly giving their all and the 400 or so fans in yellow were certainly the louder of the two sets.

It was heartbreak for Torquay however as Palace were awarded a penalty less than 4 minutes later and Ambrose dispatched the kick to give Palace the 2-1 lead which they held onto. Chris Todd will be disappointed with giving away the foul and the game as Torquay could have produced something if it remained 1-1 for a while.

Torquay fought back and had at least a couple of near misses in the last ten minutes but Palace knew they could hold on and their back four played well to keep Speroni’s goal clear.
