Crystal Palace v Torquay

This could be a close encounter after an impressive first league game for Torquay and Crystal Palace having some injuries.

Both teams have only managed a draw against Plymouth in the past month and Stern John is out with a bad elbow injury.

I think that Torquay will have to endure a lot of pressure and Scott Bevan will have to be on top form in goal.

The defensive partnership of Todd and Robertson, if not Charnock, will have to be ready for some strong counter-attacking play from Palace.

Crystal Palace Team News:

Stern John picked up an injury at the weekend in the league so will be out.

Jose Fonte has a thigh strain which may rule him out of the tie, the team physio will check his condition nearer the time.

Darren Ambrose may start and complete his first full 90 minutes for the club. He played half an hour last week after coming back from injury.

Player to watch: Alan Lee

The striker will presumably start in Stern John’s absence and will know this is his opportunity to shine.
After scoring at the weekend after coming on as a sub, all eyes will be on him if he can start today.

Torquay United Team News:

Probably Tim Sills and Scott Rendell up front to start although Benyon will be pushing for a place after being left on the bench last week.

Mustapha Carayol is back from a hamstring injury so will also be in contention.

Paul Buckle has no new injury worries since the start of the weekend.

Player to watch: Scott Rendell

He scored one at the weekend and will be looking to show that he has what it takes to perform in the Championship for his team Peterborough.

Match Facts & Stats

Match Prediction:

I’m going for a 1-0 home win. Torquay have the ability to do some damage but I feel that Palace are just a bit too strong for the Gulls.

close with the prediction. one goal in it and bevan was on top form in the first half. he had to be to keep that goal empty.

good to see sillsy get off the mark and now he can get down to business in the league.
